For my first 14,000 ft hike, or 14er, we ascended Quandary Peak. The mountain is located right outside of Breckenridge and starts off easy but ends with a steep ascent through rocks. Any view from 14,000ft is amazing, and everything looks like it could be from Jurassic Park.
All along the way there were families of mountain goats that followed our tracks. They must be accustomed to seeing people because they hardly shyed away at all. We also saw lots of furry little Marmots scurrying around.
At the top of the peak there was a stick marking the top and a log for everyone who reaches it to sign their name.
At the top you can also look out over three other 14er’s that can all be hiked in one day. They are Democrat, Lincoln, and Cameron, Bross can also be done if the conditions permit. Our friend Robert who hiked with us this time had just hiked these peaks as well, here he looks out over them.
Directly down where he is looking is a beautiful lake nestled in the valley of the mountains. After we finished the hike we drove down to take a look.
It was overall a great hike and definitely worth doing. As one of the easier 14er’s in Colorado Quandary will get your palette wet for more.
